What did Donald Trump claim about government spending on 19 Oct 2016?
Donald Trump, Republican presidential nominee ·
Just like when you ran the State Department, $6 billion was missing. How do you miss $6 billion? You ran the State Department, $6 billion was either stolen. They don't know. It's gone, $6 billion.
No money was found missing. The inspector general flagged contracts worth over $6 billion with incomplete or missing files, and said he never concluded $6 billion was missing.
The State Department inspector general's March 20, 2014 management alert (MA-A-0002) found that over the previous six years the Office of Inspector General had identified State Department contracts worth more than $6 billion "in which contract files were incomplete or could not be located at all." It did not find that money was missing. Inspector General Steve Linick wrote in a signed letter published in The Washington Post on April 13, 2014: "Some have concluded based on this that $6 billion is missing. The alert, however, did not draw that conclusion."
