China bought far more than $16 billion of U.S. farm products in a year well before 2020: $25.9 billion in 2012, $25.5 billion in 2013, $24.2 billion in 2014 and $19.6 billion in 2017 (USDA Economic Research Service, Foreign Agricultural Trade of the United States).
