What did Donald Trump claim about taxes on 11 May 2024?
Donald Trump, Former President of the United States and Republican presidential candidate ·
Macron of France, good guy. He's a friend of mine, but he loves France, and he was going to put a tax on all American business, a very substantial tax, 25%, on American businesses in France.
France's tax was 3 percent, not 25 percent. It covered gross revenue from just two kinds of digital services, and only at companies with very large digital revenues, not all American business.
France's digital services tax, signed by President Macron on July 24, 2019, is a 3 percent levy on gross revenues from two kinds of digital services, and it applies only to companies with at least 750 million euros of such revenue worldwide and 25 million euros in France (U.S. Trade Representative, Section 301 Report on France's Digital Services Tax, Dec. 2, 2019).
