The only people that want them are the people that are getting rich off windmills, getting massive subsidies from the US government, and it's the most expensive energy there is. It's many, many times more expensive than clean, natural gas.
Wind is not the most expensive. Federal estimates for new plants entering service in 2028 put onshore wind at $31.07 per megawatthour, cheaper than combined-cycle gas at $42.72 and coal at $89.33.
The Energy Information Administration's cost estimates for new plants entering service in 2028 put onshore wind at $31.07 per megawatthour, below natural gas combined-cycle plants ($42.72), coal ($89.33) and gas combustion turbines ($128.82). EIA said gas combined-cycle plants are still being built 'even though their LCOE, on average, is higher than either onshore wind or solar PV' (EIA, Levelized Costs of New Generation Resources in the Annual Energy Outlook 2023).
