Bolton told an Iranian opposition gathering they would celebrate in Tehran before 2019. Iran's Islamic Republic remained in power through 2019 and beyond.
The Islamic Republic, declared on February 11, 1979, remained in power through 2019; in February 2020 the Congressional Research Service reported that unrest 'has not appeared to threaten the regime's grip on power' (CRS, RL32048).
