What did Donald Trump claim about health care on 26 Jun 2025?
Donald Trump, President of the United States ·
And your Medicaid is left alone. It's left the same.
The bill he was selling rewrote Medicaid. The House-passed text required states to impose 80-hour monthly work requirements on many adult enrollees and to recheck their eligibility every six months, and both rules are in the law he signed eight days later.
The House-passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1, engrossed May 2025) adds Medicaid 'community engagement' requirements (Sec. 44141: work, community service or a work program of not less than 80 hours a month, among other options) and requires eligibility redeterminations 'once every 6 months' for expansion adults (Sec. 44108). The enacted law keeps both (Public Law 119-21, Secs. 71119 and 71107, approved July 4, 2025).
