Germany's official police crime statistics for 2017, published by the Federal Criminal Police Office in spring 2018, recorded 5,761,984 offences, down 9.6 percent from 6,372,526 in 2016 (BKA, Polizeiliche Kriminalstatistik 2017). That was also below the 6,082,064 offences recorded in 2014 and the 6,330,649 recorded in 2015, before and during the 2015 refugee intake (BKA, Polizeiliche Kriminalstatistik 2015).
