What did Donald Trump claim about investigations on 3 May 2018?

Donald Trump, President of the United States ·

Mr. Cohen, an attorney, received a monthly retainer, not from the campaign and having nothing to do with the campaign, from which he entered into, through reimbursement, a private contract between two parties, known as a non-disclosure agreement, or NDA.

There was no retainer. Prosecutors said Michael Cohen's $35,000 monthly checks repaid election expenses, including the $130,000 payment, made to influence the 2016 election in coordination with the campaign.

Prosecutors' account of the charges Cohen pleaded guilty to on August 21, 2018 states that his 2017 invoices citing 'the retainer agreement' brought him monthly $35,000 reimbursement checks, totaling $420,000, for election-related expenses including the $130,000 payment; that 'there was no such retainer agreement'; and that he made the payments 'in order to influence the 2016 presidential election', coordinating with one or more members of the campaign (U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of New York).
