What did Donald Trump claim about law on 14 Jul 2020?

Donald Trump, President of the United States ·

I don't think he's gonna need a pardon because he's been proven to be innocent.

Flynn was never proven innocent. He pleaded guilty under oath, the court accepted his plea twice, and after his pardon the court noted a pardon does not by itself make him innocent.

Michael Flynn pleaded guilty under oath on December 1, 2017, the court accepted his guilty plea a second time on December 18, 2018, and in December 2019 the court held, in denying his motions, that his false statements to the FBI were material; after Trump's pardon the court dismissed the case as moot without ruling on the government's motion to dismiss, noting that the pardon 'does not, standing alone, render [Mr. Flynn] innocent' (U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, United States v. Flynn, December 8, 2020).
