What did Donald Trump claim about crime on 2 Jan 2017?
Donald Trump, President-elect of the United States ·
Chicago murder rate is record setting - 4,331 shooting victims with 762 murders in 2016. If Mayor can't do it he must ask for Federal help!
Not a record. Chicago police counted up to 943 murders a year in the early 1990s, against 762 in 2016, when the city had only about 3 percent fewer residents, so the rate was higher then.
Chicago police counted 928 murders in 1991, 943 in 1992 and 931 in 1994, all above the 762 cited for 2016 (Chicago Police Department, 2011 Murder Analysis Report). The city also had more residents then: 2,783,726 in the 1990 census, against an estimated 2,704,958 in 2016 (U.S. Census Bureau).
