What did Donald Trump claim about law on 4 May 2018?
Donald Trump, President of the United States ·
In all fairness, Bob Mueller worked for Obama for 8 years.
Mueller became FBI director under George W. Bush in 2001. Obama took office on Jan. 20, 2009, and Mueller's extended term ended on Sept. 4, 2013, so he served under Obama for less than five years, not eight.
At the President's May 12, 2011 request, Congress made a one-time exception to the 10-year statutory limit on the FBI Director's term, creating a new term for Robert S. Mueller III that would "continue until September 4, 2013," and provided that he "may not serve as Director after September 4, 2013" (Public Law 112-24, July 26, 2011).
